Keynote talk: The multi-sensory world of words

Words are not just there to be seen. Reading is a multi-sensory experience that can make you feel hungry; sound LOUD or quiet; trigger a smell from your childhood; make you want to touch (or recoil); intrigue, energise or calm; or evoke powerful memories. The surprising thing is how much of this happens before you read what the words themselves have to say.

Science shows that the more senses that are involved in an experience, the more impact it will have and the more memorable it will be. These are techniques that can be used to make your business communications stand out from the crowd.

Sarah has been studying our responses to the look of words through her own research and in collaboration with the Crossmodal Research Department at the University of Oxford. In this talk the audience is invited to join in with lively games and demonstrations as they take part in the discovery process.
